30 August 2017 Troubled Times

Since our thrilling home win against Leicester on the opening day of the season, things have taken a turn for the worse, with the Arsenal losing two games in a row. The away loss to the hateful enemy, Stoke City, was painful, but it was a game that the Arsenal dominated, and in which one sublime piece of counterattacking brilliance and clinical finishing on the part of the orcs condemned us to the first loss. This millenium has seen a rise in grievance and identity politics. The Arsenal football club is not immune to this. Read more ...

5 July 2017 Welcome Alexandre Lacazette

The Arsenal yesterday announced the signing of 26 year old French international, Alexandre Lacazette, paying a club record transfer fee of in the order of £50 million. A winger turned striker, Lacazette can play either wide or through the middle. He is a proven goalscorer, scoring the second most goals in Ligue Un in France last season, behind Edison Cavani. He is also consistently prolific, having scored more than 20 league goals per season for Olympique Lyonnais for the past three seasons. Read more ...

28 June 2017 Missing Santi Cazorla

Santi Cazorla has not played football for the Arsenal since October last year, and the team and fans have certainly missed his mercurial industry and creativity. Many would argue that the club may not have suffered one of the more disappointing campaigns of Arsene Wenger's glorious tenure as manager had he been fit and playing for more of last season. Cazorla's contribution to the team's slick passing game cannot be overemphasized. It is therefore of concern that he is unlikely to return to action earlier than November. This raises the question of who should try to fill his role in the coming season. Read more ...

21 June 2017 Alexis from the Bench

Alexis Sanchez was a substitute in Chile's two goal victory over New Zealand in their opening Confederations Cup match. He soon influenced the match, crossing immaculately for Arturo Vidal's headed goal and later breaking the offside trap, with his blocked shot setting up Eduardo Vargas who added a second. It is quite likely that Sanchez would have started the match had he not being carrying a slight ankle injury, but his effectiveness as an impact substitute is interesting to note. Read more ...

14 June 2017 Foxes First

The Premier League fixtures for the 2017/2018 season were released today, and the Arsenal's first opponent is Leciester City at the Emirates Stadium on 12 August. After an emotionally fraught season that brought the disappointment of failure to qualify for the Champions' League and the joy of winning the F A Cup, a two month wait can seem an eternity, but luckily some of our players will be in international action in June and July for international qualifiers and the Confederations Cup. 7 June 2017 Welcome Sead Kolašinac

The Arsenal yesterday announced the signing of 24 year old Bosnian international, Sead Kolašinac, on a free transfer. Kolašinac spent the last 5 seasons at Schalke. He played at left back during the 2016/2017 Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Uefa Europa League seasons, scoring 3 goals in 35 appearances. Signing Kolašinac certainly adds depth and flexibility to the Arsenal squad in defensive areas, as he also played at centre back and in defensive midfield earlier in his career. Less certain is how Arsene Wenger intends using Kolašinac and how his inclusion affects the balance of the squad and the career arcs of other Arsenal squad members. Read more ...
