The New Season

Isaac Lundall Wednesday, 9 August 2017

The Premier League kicks off with the Arsenal versus Leicester at the Emirates stadium at 8:45pm (South African time). Hopefully we will all have put together our Fantasy Premier League teams by then. If you are yet to join the gooners.info money mini-league (code 77502-28170), you have until 8pm (South African time) this Friday to enter. Terms and conditions are as follows:

Alexis Sanchez will not play in the Arsenal versus Leicester on Friday and Mesut Oezil is a doubt. Alex Iwobi has a good chance of starting the game, therefore, and is worth considering for our fantasy teams in the first gameweek.

The absence of Sanchez from the Arsenal starting lineup will likely cause gooners' spider senses to start tingling. They will have seen this movie before. When Robin Van Persie entered his final year as a contract rebel, Arsene Wenger chose to sell his contract to Manchester United instead of running his contract down, and gooners fear that Alexis will be sold to PSG, Barcelona, or, shock, horror, Manchester City.

If Sanchez were to leave the club, who would fill his shoes? Alex Iwobi could possibly step up, with Reiss Nelson filling Iwobi's shoes. A player more similar to Alexis than Iwobi, however, is Alex Oxlade-Chamblerlain, who could leave wing back duties in the safe hands of Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolašinac and be the attacking midfielder that his destiny demands. We hope that Alexis will commit himself to the club, but if he does not, it will not be the end of the world, and his exit would allow the emergence of Chamberlain as a world class player in his own right.

We wish the lads all the best against Leicester on Friday. Here's hoping that they can get the season off to a winning start.
